WordPress shows that I am running PHP 5.6 and need to update to PHP 7, but getting Error Messages

james_mccormackjames_mccormack Lifetime Member
I have 3 WP sites (1 running Genesis and 2 running Thesis) all with the Quik Theme. When I do a PHP 7 test I get error messages with the following:

Themedy Visual Designer (Thesis)
Thesis (Thesis)
Thesis Import (Thesis)
Quik Child Theme (Genesis)

How do I fix these?
Thanks,
Jim

I assume your using SiteGround for that check?

I would just do the PHP change anyway - I run PHP 7 with Thesis and everything we offer here just fine.

Yes, I have SiteGround and that is the check from their SG Optimizer app. The errors I get are below:

The following plugins/themes are not compatible with PHP 7.0.

    Dagon Design Form Mailer
    Exec-PHP
    Themedy Visual Designer
    Thesis
    Thesis Import/Export
    WP Super Cache
    WP-SpamFree

Due to these errors the app won't let me complete the upgrade to PHP 7.0.
    Thanks,
    Jim

I tried to update to PHP 7.2 and PHP 7.0.24, but both crashed the site. I uninstalled Dagon Design Form Mailer, but it still crashed. What is Dagon Design Form Mailer? Also, what is Exec-PHP?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Neither of those are ours so I'm not sure.

What I would do is backup your site, deactivate all plugins, upgrade to PHP 7.1 - should run fine.

Go back and activate your plugins one by one until the site breaks so you know the exact plugin causing the issues.

I deleted the Dagon plugins and deactivated the Exec-PHP plugins and was able to upgrade to PHP 7.0. I still get the error messages in the SG Optimizer plugin PHP compatibility checker, but the site appears to be OK.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Great!

Yeah many of the "error" messages in SG Optimizer are simple warnings that there "might be" a problem - not set in stone issues that all need to be rectified to run PHP 7.
