Move search field to before main menu

Hi again,

one other change I have not been able to get working is to move the search to the left of the main menu, right now I do have a field there in the correct position / style but it is not functional. I tried to copy this code from functions.php:

<div id="search_area"> <form method="get" class="search_form" action="<?php echo home_url(); ?>"> <p> <input class="text_input" type="text" value="<?php echo __('To search, type and hit enter...', 'themedy'); ?>" name="s" id="s" onfocus="if (this.value == '<?php echo __('To search, type and hit enter...', 'themedy'); ?>') {this.value = '';}" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = '<?php echo __('To search, type and hit enter...', 'themedy'); ?>';}" /> <input type="hidden" id="searchsubmit" value="Search" /> </p> </form> </div>

And place it in my new custom_functions.php code, but then the site goes blank - what I have now is here (are you able to please let me know what to paste from above into below to make it work? :

function be_follow_icons($menu, $args) { $args = (array)$args; if ( 'primary' !== $args['theme_location'] ) return $menu; $follow = "<li class='menu-header-search'><form action='http://example.com/' id='searchform' method='get'><input type='text' name='s' id='s' placeholder='To search, type and hit enter...'></form></li>"; return $follow . $menu; }

thanks as always.
