Front page slider doesn't display on mobile sizes

You can see the site I'm having issues with at: http://engayla.com/ -- home page

When you shrink the page size down to around 600 pixels, or view it on a device smaller than this, the images disappear leaving a large white space right under the header. The theme settings say the slider doesn't work at widths less than 1000 pixels, so technically it's working as designed.

For now I'll use a CSS media query to hide the blank space left by the non-functioning slider. But presumably the images are still being loaded, with a corresponding impact on user's (mobile!) speed and data usage.

But is there a better workaround for this? It would be very good if this could be handled in the slider code.

Thanks!
